Former culture minister Margaret Hodge has been named new chair of the Theatre Royal Stratford East.
The MP for Barking replaces Paul O’Leary, who was chair on an interim basis following the departure of Carol Lake in March this year.
Hodge, who was the first woman to be elected chair of the public accounts committee, said the theatre makes a “unique and excellent contribution to both the community in the East End and the theatre landscape nationally”.
“With the focus on new writing, musical theatre and most importantly, giving a voice to diverse communities, it is an exciting and important place with which I am delighted to be working,” she said.
TRSE artistic director Kerry Michael said Hodge’s “expertise and passion” for the venue would help it “create new successes in the arts and local community”.
